This is hard information to find on the web. 4 years ago (2005), I first discovered these wire storage cubes in Costco in Des Moines, IA around Christmas time. They are rounded-square wire frames with a translucent plastic covering which attach with plastic discs. The plastic can rip if a sharp force is applied with speed. Notwithstanding, the units can hold a lot of weight! I have a configuration of 3 x 4 cubes and each cube is holding about 25-30lbs. of books! Very stable also, and easy to move when empty.
Removal can be tough sometimes, but parts are reusable (even if the plastic connectors break, which they do sometimes, they are still usable!). These modular cubes are 13″cubed and usually come in sets of 3 or 6. The colored ones cost significantly more than the clear white (colored @ $15 for 3 cubes, clear @ $19 for 6 cubes), but can add a nice contrast to the plain white. A word of caution, however: on Amazon.com and Target.com, they are offering these cubes in “pink” and “purple”. I ordered the purple ones, then found out the truth: these are referring to exact same color: HOT-PINK! I didn’t return them myself because I was able to rationalize that they were the color of Energon Cubes from Transformers, so they were still cool. But, they are definitely not purple! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
The brand I have always bought is called “Storage Solutions”. However, since that is such a generic term a google search is usually less-than-fruitful. After ordering a couple sets, here is the company information included in the package:
