FINALLY—A local Farmers & Maker’s Market in Geneva, AL!
I visited a first-of-its-kind Farmers and Makers Market in Geneva, AL. It was hosted by 3rd Day Market & Milling, a local shop working hard to add healthier, more intentional food and lifestyle options in a town that’s mostly been running on barbeque, Mexican, and meat‑and‑three plates for years.

Dear Reader,
Several local vendors gathered today in Geneva for the first annual Farmers and Artisan Market hosted by 3rd Day Market \& Milling. The event featured a wide variety of handmade and home-based goods, including artisan breads, sourdough creations, woodworking crafts, jams, jellies, and other homemade products.
Vendors included Roost and Rise of Geneva, Rocky Head Homestead from Ariton, SNK Davis Farms from Kinston, T \& A Freshies, which makes homemade car air fresheners, as well as local woodworker James Taylor and many others. Shoppers browsed items such as leather patches, ribbons, wreaths, ornaments, bows, crosses, bird feeders, and handmade condiment holders, all crafted by local artisans.
Despite early morning rain, the weather cleared by the 10 a.m. start time, and by the time I pulled into the gravel lot the sun was out and the place had that “small-town Saturday” buzz. Vendors traveled from across the region, including as far as Ozark, Alabama, to share the fruits of their labor. The event tested local interest in healthier and organic options in Geneva, where residents say choices are limited.
One of my personal highlights was sampling locally sourced quail eggs. I was happy to find that they tasted almost exactly like chicken eggs—just smaller—so they felt familiar but still like a fun novelty. Moments like that are exactly why I love these markets: you get to talk to the person who raised or made what you’re eating.
3rd Day Market \& Milling, which focuses on homemade, patriotic, and organic lifestyle goods, feels like a natural hub for this kind of event. Located on Sizemore Highway in Geneva, it already offers fresh sourdough breads and a rotating selection of specialty items, plus a selection of gluten-free bakery options for folks with dietary preferences. Hosting a regular farmers and makers market there could give local families a way to keep more of their food dollars in the community while supporting small farms and artisans.
If you’re anywhere near Geneva and you’re tired of the same old drive‑thru routine, keep an eye on 3rd Day Market \& Milling’s Facebook page for future market dates. You might walk away with fresh bread or a new favorite jam—but more importantly, you’ll be supporting neighbors who are trying to grow something healthier here in Wiregrass soil.
