Dear Reader,
Last week I received a call from my sales rep Stephen at Sweetwater Sound. About 2 years ago I bought a nice purple “starburst”-ish Jackson guitar and a 60W Orange Crush amp. Originally, both the guitar and amp were having issues. After troubleshooting I was able to determine that the issue with the first jackson guitar was that it had a Floyd Rose tremolo. I was not aware when I purchased it that FL trems were known to be very finnicky to dial in the tuning and keep it. I returned the floyd rose version for a simple fixed bridge with the same purple finish and shape — it has been a beauty to play.
The amp looked great, nothing appeared damaged, but whenever I turned on — whether playing or not — there was always a subversive hum/buzz. I determined by pluggin it in to a different circuit that it wasn’t the amp, but rather the electrical circuit — my house was built in 1887, updated in the 50s, and I think the electric may not have been updated since then because they are heartwood pine walls, not drywall so messing with the wiring is a whole nother’ ballgame.
Once I knew the amp was good, I just didn’t use it the house and instead only use it at church. Which … is what I actually bought it for. I originally purchased the amp and guitar for my role in guitar ministry at St. Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church (SEMBC) in Geneva, AL.
About 6 months or so after that I purchase a secondary amp so that I have something to practice on at home since my main one is at church.
Anyways, when Stephen called to check on me and see if I had any musical needs for this year, I was very appreciative of that “service after the sale” attitude. And, at the moment, finances are tight, but I would like to purchase another guitar when things are better.
His call inspired me to write this post so that I could post a picture and he could use as a successful testimonial if he wants to.
So, here’s the picture — pretty sweet, huh? 🎸🚀
